Assuming that metal sorption on biomass surface is an uncompetitive phenomenon (i.e., both the test metal ions concurrently sorb onto the same metal binding sites without any type of competition), the following equations have been proposed (figure1) where q1 and q2 are, respectively, amount of metal species 1 and 2 sorbed at equilibrium (mmol g1), qtotal is total metal sorbed (mmolg-1), qmax is the maximum sorption capacity (mmol /g), and b1 and b2 are the affinity constants (l mmol-1) of the biosorbent for metal 1 and 2, respectively.
