K. C. Nicolaou, ÌìÈ»²úÎïºÏ³É´óʦ.2005ÄêÃÀ¹ú»¯Ñ§Ñ§»á¹ú¼Ò½±Àø»ñµÃÕß¡£ ¿ÎÌâ×é¼ò½é: In this laboratory, the study of the chemistry and biology of natural products and designed molecules encompasses total synthesis, solid phase chemistry, molecular design, combinatorial synthesis and biological investigations. Targets are selected on the basis of novel molecular architecture, important biological activity and interesting mechanism of action. The aim is to optimize the opportunity for discovery and invention and to provide challenging arenas for education and training. These concepts serve as the foundation for their research programs, which amalgamate natural products chemistry, organic synthesis and chemical biology. Recent examples include the total synthesis of TaxolTM, brevetoxins A and B, epothilones A and B, eleutherobin and sarcodictyins, vancomycin, CP-molecules, sanglifehrin A, everninomicin, a number of bisorbicillinoids, apoptolidin and diazonamide A. K.C. Nicolaou's recent awards and honors include the first Aspirin Prize for Solidarity through Chemistry (Spain, 1999), the Max Tishler Prize, Harvard University (2000), the Paul Karrer Gold Medal, Universitat Zurich, Switzerland (2000), the Royal Society of Chemistry Centenary Medal (U.K., 2000-2001), and the Ernst Schering Prize, Ernst Schering Research Foundation (2001).1996, he was elected Honorary Foreign Member of the Japanese Pharmaceutical Society and in 1999, an Honorary Professor of the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, China. K.C. Nicolaou's research interests focus on chemical synthesis, molecular design and molecular recognition, and the biological actions of molecules. He is the author or co-author of more than 500 publications, 67 patents (48 issued, 19 pending) and two books, the last book titled AClassics in Total Synthesis@ with co-author Erik Sorensen.
