  Abstract:  Pallets have great effects in logistics, which have already been approved by industry and academic circles. However, many problems like poor quality, specification confusion, low utilization ratio and difficulty in recycling exists in pallet application in China. The pallet pool system is an effective approach to resolve the above-mentioned problems, which is beneficial to promote logistics standardization, boost modern logistics, bring about enormous and long-term economic interests, save the society economy resources and protect ecological environment. Otherwise, the pallet pool system can't be separated from the support of information system. And, on the other hand, the RFID technology has made great progress by leaps and bounds which will provide an effective hand to build up the pallet pool information system. In this paper, the authors firstly argue the concept and application pattern of the PPS; secondly, they discuss how RFID is applied to pallet pool system; finally, the paper mainly analyzes the architecture, functions and business processes of the pallet pool information system. © 2010 ASCE.
