The Smart Grids and Power System group at Hong Kong Polytechnic University led by A/Prof Zhao XU has the following openings,
1.    Openings of Postdoc fellowship (2 years) through the Hong Kong Scholar Program

2.    Openings of Research Fellow/ Research Associate / Research Assistant (five posts) (Ref. 14012901)
[Appointment period: each for thirty-six months], at Power System and SmartGrids Research Group, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Post Specification
Duties
The appointees will assist the project leader in the Theme Based Research Scheme project - “Smart solar energy harvesting, storage and utilization” (total budget HK$60.33 Mil for 5 years from 2014-2018), sponsored by Hong Kong Research General Council.
Qualifications
Applicants for the Research Fellow/Associate post should have a master’s degree or a good honours degree with at least three years of research / relevant work experience. Applicants for the Research Assistant post should have an honours degree or an equivalent qualification. Applicants for all posts should also have research / project experience in and knowledge of the following areas,
- Solar photovoltaic system and power electronics system design and development;
- Microgrid design operation and control;
- Grid integration of renewable energies and storage systems;
- Power system security and stability analysis;
- Software engineering and communications systems.

Remuneration
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
3.    Dr. Xu is actively looking for excellent candidates as Research Postgraduates in the following areas (please contact Dr. Xu directly via email):
•Solar/wind/battery storage system design, control, modeling/simulation, and hardware implementation
•Electronic converter design, modeling/simulation and hardware implementation
•Microgrid control and optimization, stability analysis and hardware implementation
•Power system operation and control, stability and security analysis under high wind/solar penetration
•Cyber-physical power system modeling and security analysis
•Optimal and robust commitment/system dispatch considering uncertainties and risks
•Emerging/Evolutionary optimization techniques for system operation and planning
•Demand side management and control, modeling and simulation
•Electricity market planning and management
