Salary: £32,590 - £36,661

Based within the Faculty of Engineering and Environment, an Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council funded research position is available as part of a joint program with Durham University and Nottingham Trent University. The aim of the project is to reduce the friction for liquids flowing through tubes and channels by controlling the wetting properties of the internal surfaces. You will join the group of Professor McHale and Dr. Ben Xu working on solid-liquid interactions including super-water-repellent surfaces, electrowetting, droplet microfluidics and drag reducing surfaces. You will develop materials, surfaces and systems for low drag flow and design, develop and conduct experiments on fluid flow through tubes and channels. This will involve writing high quality reports and papers for publication and dissemination.

You will need to evidence the use of surface treatments/coatings to manipulate wetting properties, engineering/integration of a functional liquid transport system, use of optical methods for contact angle measurement, knowledge of techniques to characterize surfaces, skills in the design and implementation of instrumentation/measurement systems, and experience of planning and conducting experiments on fluid flow. A PhD in engineering, materials, experimental physics or a related discipline is essential; relevant postdoctoral experience is desirable.

There is no specific language requirement on this post, but the UK board agency will ask for TOFEL or IELTS scores when you apply for visa. So, it would be safe for you to held a valid IELTS score of 6.0 or above (or equivalent T). Thanks!
