1. INTRODUCTIONZeolites are well-known as valuable crystalline solids withframework structures containing discrete micropores ofmolecular dimensions that accommodate exchangeable extra-framework cation sites.1?3In terms of host?guest interactions,zeolites can be viewed as host frameworks with structurallyintact and immutable three-dimensional (3D) structures. Theyshow exceptional catalytic and sorption characteristics togetherwith very desirable environmental qualities.4?7Zeolites arewidely used in commercial applications as catalysts forhydrocarbon conversions in petroleum and chemical indus-tries,8?10as sorbents for small-molecule separation processes,and as ion exchangers in detergents.11The remarkable properties of zeolites are closely related totheir structural features.12Zeolites are composed of corner-sharing TO4tetrahedra, with T standing for tetrahedrallycoordinated framework atoms, such as Si and Al or otherheteroatoms.12,13Zeolites contain one-, two-, or three-dimen-sional systems of channels, which are interconnected in anumber of di erent ways. The topological uniqueness ofindividual zeolite structures is de ned by coordinationsequences and vertex symbols.14The number of possiblezeolites is (theoretically) unlimited;15?19however, only 213di erent framework structures are accepted so far by theStructural Commission of the International Zeolite Associationand have obtained a unique three-letter code.14,20Most of thesynthetic zeolites were obtained via solvothermal synthesis byuse of di erent reaction conditions, reactants, and structure-
