How to treat pressure
After a lazy holiday, it's still a little difficult to be concentrated. Anyway, today I'm gonna to continue my learning about positive psychology. Pressure, like a close friend of mine, is always around me. During college, it came form the goal to get good grades, participate in social activities and the concern about landing a satisfying job. Now having been admitted into graduate school, the stress become stronger because I suddenly realized there is much more to learn once opening up this possibility to me. Fortunately, it's never to be late to learn. The professor told pressure may be otherwise a good thing. Image we are working out, no matter what it is, like weightlifting, running, swimming, the body inevitably has to bear a certain extent of pressure as a result of pushing or pulling our muscle. Are these daily physical exercise harmful to us? Of course not, as long as we don't go far beyond the extent that our body can not stand and stop when necessary. We all have such experience. Doing sports on impulse after a long time of lacking of physical exercise, and what we do next few days is to recover our muscle and gradually increase the amount. The ultimate end is we are healthier than before. But instead of getting rid of stress, we find ways to get along well with it. This holds true to the mental pressure i. When overwhelmed by it, the harder we try to run away, the closer it gets to us. When it is not enough to bother us, we make most of it, turning into motivation. When it leads to malfunction, it is time to take a rest and let the "muscle" recover. A study was made to carried to figure out way some people can immune from pressure and be happy. Researchers concluded it boils down to two common characters. 1. Having daily rituals. They know exactly what they will do in the next day, and some work have been formed into a ritual. 2. Setting ritual for both work and recovery. Normally being more efficient after they have one or two days to relax ritually. That's why we need break. So I need to change my timetable, enjoying my holiday and weekends from now. |
