俞平伯（1900-1990），原名俞铭衡，字平伯，湖州德清人。古典文学研究家，诗人，作家，尤以红学研究而著称于世。１９１９年毕业于北京大学。先后任浙江省视学、浙江师范国文教员，上海大学、北大女子文理学院教授，一度赴英、美，均不久即返。曾加入过北京大学的“新潮社”、“文学研究会”、“语丝社”等文学团体，是新文学运动初期的重要诗人，提倡过“诗的平民化”。１９２２年１月，曾与朱自清、郑振铎、叶圣陶等人创办五四以来最早出现的诗刊《诗》月刊。
建国后，历任北京大学教授，北京大学、中国科学院哲学社会科学部（现中国社会科学院）文学研究所一级研究员，全国文联委员，中国作协理事，九三学社中央委员。是第一至三届全国人大代表，第五至七届全国政协委员，是中国白话诗创作的先驱者之一。主要作品有诗集《冬夜》、《古槐书屋间》，散文集《燕知草》、《杂拌儿》。《红楼梦辨》（１９２３年初版，５０年代初改名《红楼梦研究（再版）》)是“新红学派”的代表作之一。
１９９０年１０月１５日逝世，终年９１岁。
俞平伯纪念馆位于德清县乾元镇。俞平伯纪念馆以大量实物和文字说明，充分展示了他一生的学术成就与贡献。俞平伯纪念馆展厅面积约200平方米，展览分为：幼承家学；投入新文学运动；旧体诗词；《红楼梦》研究；爱国知识分子；业精于勤；故乡情等七个部分。
俞平伯铜像安放在纪念馆毗邻的大家山公园山顶，大家山（也称市亭山），俞平伯铜像浙江美术学院教授塑造，底座安放着他的骨灰，铜像肃穆安祥，充分体现出这位学者的高尚风范。

Yu Pingbo (1900-1990), formerly known as Yuming value, the word-po, Huzhou Deqing people. Classical Literature home, poets, writers, particularly known for Dream of Red Mansions on the world.
