the better way to learn(4)-misunderstanding on psychological concept
1. What is happiness?
Superficially, I thought happiness should be a constant feeling of unconstrained from the bottom of your heart which didn't vary with time or shouldn't be like that if you were truly happy. A lesson drove home to me that only the psychopath and dead who experienced an invariable feeling. They stopped to response to external triggers and thus, in other words, they had no feelings. In fact, happiness is a state of mind during a certain period, which may last for one day, one month or one year. We, individually, as a normal person, are inevitably to avoid ups and downs in our daily life, but they just bounce around a basic level which represents our level of happiness. The key point of happiness is that how quickly we recover from our emotional fluctuation. One probably buries himself into the sadness of breaking up for, let's exaggerate, one year, or the other is likely to muster up to find a new mate. In essence, resilience as a gauge measures how happy we are.
2. Is the level of happiness fixed?
A research shows that whether those professionals get tenured, the level of their happiness will eventually come back to the basic level as the one during the time when the results were not announced after being ecstatic or being horribly sorrow. Does that mean the level of our happiness is fixed, and there is no way for us to change it. Absolutely not! Presumably, our happiness stands at a constant level with many ups and downs that we have been through. Imaging a situation when the same failure comes to us next time, the degree of pain of which inflicts on us is the same, in quantative sense. But, with so many fluctuation, we become bearable and the same quantative pain doesn't have the same sense by us on the emotional level. Such feelings may become amplified or minimized, in turn, lifting or lowering the level of happiness.
