Shanghai, China Overview Big data is an emerging paradigm applied to datasets whose size is beyond the ability of commonly used software tools to capture, manage, and process the data within a tolerable elapsed time. Through intelligent analysis of heterogeneous data generated during the city’s routine operation based on advanced information technologies, a smart city which has certain smart ability to provide citizens with a better living environment would be achieved. Various technologies are being discussed to support big data analysis and smart city application, such as wireless network, distributed energy processing, intelligent transportation technology and image/video processing. The 2014 International Workshop on Big Data and Smart City (BDSC 2014) is a cross-area international forum on big data processing, smart city applications and case studies. BDSC 2014 aims at bringing together researchers, developers, users, and practitioners interested in big data processing and smart city application. Scope and Topics The objective of the workshop is to invite authors to submit original manuscripts that demonstrate and explore current advances in all aspects of big data processing and smart city applications.
