Positive psychology change the way we interpret and understand the information we accept, primarily shifting our focus from the negative to the positive, thus, which will make a big difference once we stand from another point. An case showing strong connection between focus and result is Marva Collins. She has an unique way to teach her students who were believed to be unteachable students ending up dropping out early, being street gangs and pregnant youths. From the beginning, she saw the seeds of potentiality in these students - perseverance, leadership, endeavor, hardworking, self-esteem and responsibility and so forth. Then she positively cultivated these seeds, watering and shedding light on them by a variety of means like asking one student to use words describing how wonderful he or she was in an alphabetically order such as adorable, bearable, consistent and dedicated...As a result, all of her students studied longer time than any other students even after class and graduated from college all the way. Focus matters a lot - what you have seen determines what you will harvest. So positive psychology tell us that it is important to focus on what is working, that being happy is not just the negation of unhappiness and that as a prevent measure, it will make us happier rather than happy. Question arise from focus, and leads to reality. On a personal level, we should identify our merits, amplify them and let them growth by cultivating them. I have found my perseverance and passion in English since I attended this class. Taking notes and reviewing in this way help me to strengthen them. Of course, I'm not sure whether it will make it, but I believe in myself. See, I just found another virtue. The word appreciation has two means. One is to thanks and the other is to growth like money, in psychological sense, the mindset money. It teach us to be satisfied with our virtues and grow them. One sharing sentence: We see what we look for and we miss much of what we are not looking for even though it is there, our experience of the world is heavily influenced by where we place our attention. |
