[交流] Lab caught in fire

Lab fume hood was caught in a fire at 2am while no one and no reactions are there.  Automatic fire preventing sysmtems spray water all over the floor for hours.  Around 30 Emergency and police trucks everywhere..  Luckily no one was injured. Time to have a rest at home for days, waiting for investigation and repair. But Soooooo sad, so horrible!

My school's labs caught fire once.  School policy changed to say: "No lab work is allowed after ____ PM except by special permission"
I also worked for a private lab that caught fire when no one was around.  Lost my job because the company had to move

My recommendation: Use this incident to get out of whatever contract you have with the professor.  Never let a disaster go to waste!!

Sometimes the accident occurred out of a sudden even the facility was not running. Cannot figure out this kind of thing.

Exactly!  I checked the fume hood twice before I leave there at 10pm, everything just can't be more normal.

This is a great idea! I should learn from it even though the cause is uncertain now. At least, if we've unplugged the power cord of the hood, it might wouldn't happen.
