1.Targeting a Se free, pure S based kesterite compound however allows retention of the benefits of a nontoxic absorber while also providing a route to a higher band gap absorber closer to the optimum value of 1.45 eV for a single junction solar cell under air mass 1.5 global AM1.5G radiation 2.Using a simple, fast, vacuum deposition process with evaporated Cu, Zn, Sn, and S, and using anneal times that are in minutes rather than hours, we demonstrate CZTS solar cells with efficiencies up to 6.8%, which is close to 50% higher than what has been observed by other workers using a similar fast evaporation technique 3.We have carried out a detailed electrical analysis of the devices and show that the performance in CZTS films is limited by low open circuit voltage VOC due to recombination loss with activation energy less than the bulk band gap, high series resistance RS ,and a "double diode" behavior in the current voltage characteristics especially in the thicker films. |
