It could be the condensation reaction between modifier macromolecules and hydroxy of the wood cell wall macromolecule after modifier impregnated into the internal wood and reduced the hydroxyl functional groups content of the macromolecule inside the timber,which significantly reduces the aqueous affinity of poplar wood and aqueous absorbency of the wood. The wood swelling and shrinkage properties thus improved ,and so is its dimensional stability .
