PhD position University of Bordeaux/China Scholarship ÉêÇë±íÁ´½Ó£ºhttp://pan.baidu.com/s/1i3zEnM9 ¿ÎÌ⣺Two©\Dimensional Triggered Assembly of Amphiphilic Block Copolymers Amphiphilic block copolymers are molecules composed of hydrophilic and hydrophobic segments having the capacity to spontaneously self©\assemble into a variety of supramolecular structures like micelles and vesicles. While their behavior has been widely studied in bulk with a particular emphasis put on the morphology of the final aggregates as function of their chemical composition, much less work has been devoted to their interfacial behavior. It is known that micellar aggregates can interact with planar surfaces and undergo various structural rearrangements depending on the physicochemical conditions. However, the true self©\assembly of amphiphilic copolymers at interfaces has been scarcely studied so far despite a great potential to generate advanced functional materials. The PhD project aims at developing such a new approach to design organized polymer ultrathin films through non©\covalent chemistry. The method is based on the direct 2D self©\ assembly of amphiphilic block copolymers into solid©\supported polymer membranes. The assembly process can accommodate a large range of block copolymer compositions and substrate shapes and sizes. Resulting assemblies are of interest for the fabrication of functional surfaces, especially for biotechnological applications requiring the non©\covalent surface immobilization of biomolecules or nanoparticles, or in microelectronics and organic electronics field where patterned thin film with controlled morphology is key for the device performance. We are seeking a motivated master degree student (or equivalent) with good English skills (test proof preferred) and a background in macromolecular and/or colloid science, physical©\ chemistry, soft matter science, material or surface science. Successful candidates must return to China upon completion of the studies and/or research. Work will be performed at Bordeaux University center of Excellence (France) in partnership with Solvay Inc. (Shanghai, Dr. L. Qi) under the supervision of Dr. Christophe Schatz and Dr. Jean©\Paul Chapel. Deadline of application: Feb 20th 2014 Contact: motivated candidates must contact as soon as possible Dr. C Schatz (University of Bordeaux, LCPO lab) schatz@enscbp.fr Dr. JP Chapel (University of Bordeaux, CRPP lab) chapel@crpp©\bordeaux.cnrs.fr For more information on the labs, please visit the websites http://www.crpp©\bordeaux.cnrs.fr/?lang=en http://www.lcpo.fr/ |
