Please don't take this the wrong way, but consider yourself lucky to be engaged in what is IMHO the noblest aspect of the pharmacy profession.  Compounding is fast becoming a lost art.  I've never witnessed it except on a small scale in Chinese Medicine Shop's


NOTE TO Lopemann:
In your message to me, briefly describe how you decided on becoming a pharmacist  The only attraction I see is that salary ramps up quickly and stays at that plateau throughout a pharmacist's career.

I'm feeling quite upset every time I heard about research's being over-competitive. But I have to admit that it's a sad fact widely acknowledged within this "industry"(sorry I really feel like referring research to as a industry, although it's not supposed to be)

I've still got some space to make a choice, to leave research or not (actually I can even choose whether to do Ph.D or not)

Abandoning my dream to be a research person clearly hurts me, but risks are real if I stick to it. I might just be led to a road without exit and no coming back.

I guess it's just being a comfort zone bias...?
Maybe I will do something else. Anyway.

Some time ago I was in a pharmacy degree, but later I transferred to a science degree (in my place pharmacy is not within science, which is a bit weird in other places). I'm doing medicinal chem & pharmacology stuff now. My supervisor strongly recommend me to go alone a research path, given that I've expressed my concerns over the surplus in this industry.

Having read more articles, stats, and your posts, my concern is raised up again

Having a specialty in drug knowledge, what can I do? (Pharmaceutical industry is downsizing, research positions are over-competitive)
Should I get another degree of Medicine...? I don't like it...
