[½»Á÷] Superstitious

Please look at this picture.

It says that building of a new skyscraper began in Wuhan days before, at the ceremony, the company killed chickens for good fortune.

This may be the first such report I read.

I know there are many people who are superstitious, but this seems go further than that.

But if we think about it, it seems still reasonable. Most of the managers of such construction companies are not well-educated, they always think there are some invisible super forces controlling everything.

However, in this case, they still think some materials are very efficient to conquer these super forces, generally, the blood of chickens, the branches of peach trees are some of them.

In my hometown, people also pay to some people who are like witches to get some "blessed" red cloth, then they attach the cloth to their jackets. In this way, they think they will be protected from the evil spirits.

I can only say I feel sad about all these.

In China the picture is ridiculous. But in another perspective, it can be part of respect to the tradition in Wuhan if the behavior will do no harm to other people, the whole society or the nature. If the killled chicken can be eaten, the candles can be recycled, and their deeds will not followed by too many people, the ceremony can then be treated as a game, or an outlet of high stress in the construction of the building. When I saw the television series The Legend of Zhen Huan, the imperials in ancient China were really superstitious.

The word "superstitious" is related to the mystious force, the natural force than will decide one's fate and cannot be controled by human beings, thus it also has a close reation with the religion and the innocent belief. In India almost all the people there believe in Allah or other minor Gods. And they do have spent much time and money on their beliefs. But I do not think that we can easily label the country as a superstitious one. In a retrospect to our country, anything in the traditional culture related to courtesy, ceremony sometimes with a litte superstition has been dropped in the modern ages both in the rural areas and big cities. Following this even the Spring Festival is not as impressive as it was before. And in some sudden silent moments we will feel lost in the progress of all-around development of the society.

Just my opinion, I am glad to share it with you.

I think this is just a tradition and delivering a wish for a safety and good fortunes. Just make the workers feel better.

Yes, this is its side effect.

Hehe, yes, you are right. It does no harm to others.

But, sorry for using this word. But, on the other hand, I think for a company which builds skyscrapters, they should know how to build a reliable building, using good design, using good staff, using good materials. If they do a building with poor quality materials, and do other bad things, such as bribing local officials to pass the quality test, and they still hope to keep "innoncent" by doing such a ritual, then, we can say, stop doing this! Do your job well.
