curton: 金币+15, ESEPI+1, asylum seekers have on Australian social structure and public safety maybe a chance 2014-01-04 16:19:36
First, let’s give credits to @swallow13
This gentleman got the right answer!

Yes these two medals are both about asylum seekers from Indonesia.
Then what is asylum seeker, and what to do with boats?

Asylum seekers are those Indonesian refugees (actually most are not) who intended to get into Australia by boat. After being accepted, most of them can stay there, or even get permanent visa.

Basically what they do is to tear off their passports, damage the boats they take, and then ask for help from Australia.

You know, people with proficient English skills can have a good life in Australia, so becoming an asylum seeker for most Indonesians are easy wins to a wealthy life and a bright future.

There are indeed SOME refugees but recently years, most asylum seekers are composed of economic migrants. You know how many asylum seekers there? You would be amazed. 33000 asylum seekers are in line for their visas, and more refugees are yet to come!

Australia’s only got 23 million people. You can imagine the impact of asylum seekers have on Australian social structure and public safety. Most asylum seekers are not well-educated. Those who arrived earlier had gained the permission to walk on the street, rather than stay in detention center. Crime rate, jobless rate increased and people were losing confidence to government.

The former Australian ruling party is ALP, Australian Labor Party. One of the major reasons it was defeated is being that this party failed to make good policies to curb the situation. Labor introduced PNG solution, later Pacific solution. It turned out that these policies are just a waste of money, money from tax-payers.

The new government is quite determined on this issue. “We Will Stop The Boats” is the new government’s slogan. Yes it successfully made it but at the same time also sparked some controversies. The new government did something brutal. It stopped medical assistance and legal service for asylum seekers. What’s more, the new government sometimes dismissed asylum seekers’ assistance requests from the sea. As I’ve mentioned earlier, they damaged their boats themselves prior to asking for help. The consequence is really horrible---a few hundred people died on the sea. The explanation given by the Australian government was that these boats were in public areas so Australian Military is not obliged to lend its hands.

Opposite parties are not happy with government’s policy. They think white Australians are from England, and thus in some sense, they are also boat people, same as asylum seekers. Another concern they have is that government’s bias on asylum seekers is a reflection of racism, which may influence much more than asylum seeker issue itself.

Okay, above is my understanding. I’m more than happy to discuss further with you guys.

As more and more Chinese student going abroad for their own future, Chinese oversea study's dream had being becomed more and more harder.  This rather familiar situatiion for us is devised from the same reasons, compared to Indonesia's asylum seekers here theme.
