Several efficient preparation methods of gold nanoparticles, such as template method, wet chemical synthesis, electrochemical method, scanning probe lithography (SPL), photochemical method and sonochemical synthesis are described. The different strategies of syntheses have led to insight into gold nanoparticle material and growth mechanism. Finally the application of and future challenges to it are discussed.
