When two pieces of metals collide, at first reflective radial waves are resulted in the two materials in the opposite direction. Subsequently the reflective waves in the inner and outer pipe are reflected at the inner surface of the inner pipe and outer surface of the outer pipe, respectively. Due to the different wall thicknesses in the inner and outer pipe, the oscillation periods of the reflective waves are different, too. The shock wave in the inner pipe and the shock wave caused by collision are superposed at the collision point to form a pressure peak. The collision speed is clearly higher than the metal movement speed at this collision point than any point beyond and hence a wave crest is formed at the collision point. As the propagation times in the pipes are different, the wave crest is deflected towards the welding direction.
