who should be sitting in the empty chair, if not for a reason
who means a whole lot for the lady in the house,  always without a pause
who has been away for seemingly a long while,  how long hard to tell
The lady is lost in the thought so deep, as if she'd fall to sleep
Not noticing the maid is stirring, it must be a common scene appearing ...

Thanks H2O. I hesitated and decided not to say it was a man (too simple too naive?). Although with 99.99999% probability it is a man she is waiting, Lesbian could date back long in history so ...
