Encounter with a better self It is my great honor to stand here making a brief talk to all of you. As a teacher for years, I have taught numerous students, young or old, boys and girls, they appeared as energetic, cheerful and optimistic as you do, looking around for a better future. But I worked as a stick to a blind citizen to go ahead, a compass to guide to right direction. It is always enjoyable to live and work with students, for their new and ignorant featuring my success by witnessing their growing up and maturing, which was not that easy as it said and told. So we can image how it will change by yourself. Everyone looks confused at age of yours, and it is not uncommon for adolescent ego is used for trying, without it how could you face with yourself and encounter with a better self? No one can say that he had understood life and know what he want, since it is has been a everlasting synthesis challenging philosophy to question one’s existence, aspiration and development. Dream is one of my beloved and hated words, the reason I like this word for it shows our inclination for improving and realize our yearning, but inversely indicating that it is not real and a long way to go ahead which might interrupt our determination and get accustomed to our situation. At foot of your place, two way lay silently, which one would you set on is largely relying on yourself. Everyone admires someone who made a big hit in certain realm. Ignoring their persistent trying and failing. You must know current condition in China education better than me and you search for more well-equipped education opportunity in Singapore. We have to admit some obvious shortcoming in universities from China. As far as I know, most of teachers in colleges will tell their students what content will be covered in coming exam which was not allowed in Singapore. I once asked some undergraduates from one college that what had you learned in your college life? The answers were so ample and colorful, they had enjoyed themselves in some organizations and made friends, some even had found their life-long lover but had to say goodbye when it came to graduation but few of them told me about their study. Liberation is what they called for university life, for in this precious period time, there was absent from a certain guide to scourge their moving forward which was a habit that was developed from their elementary schools. What is the meaning of life and change? Maybe everyone got a respond. Here is mine, to encounter with a better self. In one book called “ Eat, Pray, Love”, accounting a traveling in three countries, the author got divorced before her departure, felt desperate even wanted to suicide to relief her pain. After witnessing so many delight matters, relish in Italy, praying in India and nature in Indonesia, she finally walked out of her cage and embrace a new lover. If we solely pay fucous on its narrative, we could find it is cursory, even worse than an ad for traveling, but it was such a bestseller just because we can see a woman maturing and changing which moved quantities of readers. I bet you are on your tour too, on this way down, to encounter a better self, that is called dreaming coming true, lighting the positive side of goal. Thanks a lot.  |

Thanks for your speech. Sometimes I also tell to myself: never be lazy to think about who we wanna be; never deny to encounter with the better self. For this we need to travel, to experience and to ponder over some issues in oder not to miss the moments for improvement. I am on the journey. |
