1. If he is happy to find the wife, then he'd make her unhappy by the act
2. If he is unhappy to find his wife, he'd not talk to the women, he is unhappy anyway
3. So that is the trick he plays - he never had a wife and this way he could find a good excuse to talk to beautiful women
