Welcome to English in a Minute.

If you have ever heard American English, you have probably heard this before: I'm a Jack-of-all-trades.

This expression can tell you a lot about a person in American English. It means a person can do anything.

A: So what do you do for a living?
B: I'm a handywoman. I fix and replace just about anything, from computers to showers drains. I guess you could say I'm a Jack-of-all-trades.

Basically, when you say "Jack-of-all-trades" in a conversation, it's another way to say that someone has many professional talents.

You may also hear this phrase used "Jack of all trades, master of none," it was used to describe people who learned how to do a lot of different things, but, they weren't able to focus on doing one thing correctly.

3.Jack-of-all-trades 杂而不精的人；万能博士；万事通
-It means a person can do anything.
- "Jack of all trades, master of none," it was used to describe people who learned how to do a lot of different things, but, they weren't able to focus on doing one thing correctly.
- A Jack of all Trades is someone who is decent at everything, but not especially adept at any one thing.
Red Mage from Final Fantasy is a Jack of all Trades.
- A person who is skilled at a variety of different things, but not to the same level as a person who is specialised in one of these things.
-Jack of all trades, master of none, but ofttimes better than a master of one. And the best is knowing something of everything and everything of something.通百艺而专一长

韩寒有曰：这个社会需要的不是全才，去掉人字下的王字，这个社会需要的是人才！这个俚语呢可以根据语境使用，比如你一个朋友之前做什么而和你聊什么，可是你发现他呢在另外件事情上也懂，或者跟你聊另外一行业的时候也很厉害，你这个时候就可以用这俚语称赞他了， you're really a Jack of all Trades.哇，你咋样样都懂啊！

其实，这个英语可以理解成中文词汇”万金油“，形容一种人或事，非常好用，各方面都可以胜任。有“万能法宝”“各项全能”的意思（用于褒义）；另一方面，“万金油”又用于讽刺什么都可以做，但是什么都做得不够精通（用于贬义）。
