Scientist/ Senior Scientist Biochemistry, R&D

JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking a highly motivated goal-oriented plant biochemist to work on the elucidation of biochemical pathways in support of Flavor and Fragrance research. The incumbent’s main responsibility will be to lead a laboratory for the discovery and characterization of key biosynthetic enzymes using molecular biology methods as well as bioinformatics’ tools. This activity is in collaboration with a larger project team that includes molecular biologists, plant biologists, biochemists, and chemists.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Initiate and conduct projects in the area of biosynthetic pathway elucidation based on a strong understanding of the biochemistry of plant secondary metabolite pathways and the needs of the Flavor and Fragrance market
• Develop strategies and methods for the identification and functional characterization of plant biosynthetic enzymes
• Lead and manage a small research team
• Timely delivery and reporting of projects needs
• Develop and evaluate new procedures, methods
• Provide support and/or advice to others on technical issues
• Maintain and guarantee the integrity of scientific data
• Keep up to date with scientific literature and patents; draft patent applications
• Strong internal collaboration across sites. Handling of external collaborations
• Networking with business divisions to understand business needs

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
• PhD degree with a minimum of 5 years experience in relevant field of plant biochemistry or molecular biology
• Strong knowledge and experience in plant secondary metabolite pathways, protein biochemistry, molecular biology, enzyme identification and protein expression systems
• Knowledge of bioinformatics and computational methods applied to gene discovery and NGS data analysis
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Ability to quickly acquire new skills
• Good working standards and organizational skills
• Proven project management skills
• Experience in supervising other researchers and technicians
• Willingness and ability to work in a multidisciplinary and multi-cultural team
• Hands-on experience with analytical methods (such as GC, GC-MS and HPLC) would be a plus
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English language. Ability to communicate in Mandarin would be a plus
