Please refer to the post Have a guess, what is this about first if you have no idea what I am talking about![]() http://muchong.com/bbs/viewthread.php?tid=6597154&fpage=1 The picture I showed you guys yesterday was taken by me, and these objects all belong to a contemporary Chinese artist---Song Dong, and his mother. The theme of the display is Waste Not (wu jin qi yong) Actually all the objects displayed were quite ordinary, nothing special at all. After Song Dong's father death (you can find details from the links I provide), his mother became reluctant to dispose of anything, as if his father's soul lied inside of one of these objects. Decades later, Song Dong made these objects an art, because they represent a past era (The Great Revolution, sorry I changed the name a little bit), as well as his feelings and life philosophy about family, about his father. Dad and Mom, Don’t Worry About Us, We Are All Well You guys need to know the background of his family, so that you can understand this display better. BTW, there have been worldwide exhibitions of Waste Not. ![]() Maybe it's because of a special era getting involved, these was not much media coverage about it in China ![]() Please click the links: http://www.moma.org/interactives/exhibitions/projects/song-dong/ http://ybca.org/song-dong MoMA - Projects.png [ Last edited by Lopemann on 2014-1-24 at 06:08 ] |
