[交流] What do you think about the role of scientists in the society?

PhD and master by research used to be seen as hope and future of a country, by the government, and the pubic as well.

However, nowadays, there are some striking changes to their roles.
More and more science workers refer themselves as Diaosi.

For quite a few of them, they complain about:
1. the low salaries, especially when compared with financially better-off peers who dropped out study and picked up business at a very young age
2. no Meizi found in the workplace, while constantly seeing Meizi taken away by Tuhao.
3. no career prospect, because in their eyes most of the researches are actually insignificant and thus the funding of government is wasted.

For the public,
1. Generally, girls are not willing to step into their world which girls think is filled with experiments, and tediousness.
2. For parents of these girls, they think world of scientists is DANGEROUS because toxic chemicals can be seen everywhere.
3. For quite a few netizens, they even think science researches have come to an end, especially when they find Nobel Prize is beginning to be awarded to minor discoveries.

For the government,
quite a few governments even begin to cut the scientific research funding!
For example, Australia Government is going to cut 1/4 of the government scientist positions even under the circumstance that CO2 emission goal is far beyond a nationally-and-globally-accepted range.

This policy is interpreted as normal by some because they think science industry is more than saturated, and fails to attribute more while lowers the cost-efficiency.

In your eyes, what do you think about the role of scientists?
Do you think it's necessary to bring about some major changes to this industry?
If it's necessary, what are these major changes?
