Theater Movement Bazaar stages reimagined classic in Beijing

If you’re a theatre buff you’ll know all about Chekhov, but you might not expect it to be fun. "Anton's Uncles" by LA-based company Theatre Movement Bazaar has hit the stage in Beijing. The company are showcasing their unique reimagining of literary classics with this new deconstruction of Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya. Four men traverse the stage gulping vodka, sitting in chairs and even dancing with one another. Along with this they sing, fight and discuss their attitudes toward middle age, their struggles and desires. Titled "Anton’s Uncles" the play is a fresh, physical take on Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya. The new interpretation of the century-old literary classic is presented by L.A.-based Theater Movement Bazaar. "Anton's Uncles" by LA-based company Theatre Movement Bazaar has hit the stage in Beijing. Tina Kronis, Director of "Anton's Uncles", said, " I want the audience to enjoy themselves, to laugh; and also feel the pain and suffering of everyday life, how difficult that can be...their life is being decided. " Theater Movement Bazaar was co-founded by Tina Kronis and her husband in 1997 and the company have been developing its own approach to combining text and movement ever since The show runs until Sunday here in the capital, before heading to Shanghai.
