Scanning transmission X-ray microscopy (STXM), a powerful method created through advances in X-ray microfocusing and access to high-flux yet softer (~100 to 2000 eV) X-ray photons generated by a synchrotron light source, coupled with near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectroscopy provides an excellent opportunity to identify and fingerprint the fine structures of C and directly image micrometer sized environmental samples with nanometer spatial resolution. |
