10.19 Reuters. Around 500 Bolivians took the law into their own hands in the La Paz suburb of El Alto, vandalizing several bars accused of selling alcohol to minors. Armed with sticks and stones, the group, made up of mostly fathers and their adolescent sons, broke windows and burned tables and chairs along a strip of drinking establishments. The angry citizens first attacked one bar after a mother reported she had discovered students between the age of 12 and 16 drinking alcohol during school hours. Local newspapers reported some bars had hidden hallways for underage consumption. Police eventually arrived on the scene, but the tables and chairs of several bars were already burning in large bonfires on the street.
