from  http://drugspedia.net/prep/42467.html

Ranolazine

Generic Name: Ranolazine (ra-NO-la-zeen)
Brand Name: Ranexa

Ranolazine is used for:
Treating chronic chest pain (angina) that has not adequately responded to other treatments. It should be used in combination with another medicine (eg, amlodipine, beta-blockers, nitrates).

Ranolazine is an antianginal medicine. Exactly how it works is unknown.

Do NOT use Ranolazine if:
you are allergic to any ingredient in Ranolazine
you have liver problems, low blood potassium levels, or a history of certain types of irregular heartbeat or abnormal heart function tests (eg, QT prolongation, ventricular tachycardia)
you are taking an antiarrhythmic (eg, quinidine, dofetilide), thioridazine, ziprasidone, or another medicine that may affect your heartbeat. Check with your doctor if you are unsure if any of your medicines may affect your heartbeat.
you are taking an azole antifungal (eg, ketoconazole), diltiazem, an HIV protease inhibitor (eg, ritonavir), a macrolide antibiotic (eg, clarithromycin), or verapamil
Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Ranolazine :
Some medical conditions may interact with Ranolazine . Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
if you have kidney problems, or a personal or family history of irregular heartbeat, abnormal heart function tests, or low blood potassium levels
Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Ranolazine . Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

Azole antifungals (eg, ketoconazole), cyclosporine, diltiazem, HIV protease inhibitors (eg, ritonavir), macrolide antibiotics (eg, clarithromycin), or verapamil because they may increase the risk of side effects from Ranolazine
Antiarrhythmics (eg, quinidine, dofetilide), thioridazine, ziprasidone, or other medicines that may affect your heartbeat because the risk of heart problems, including severe irregular heartbeat, may be increased. Check with your doctor if you are unsure if any of your medicines may affect your heartbeat.
Digoxin), medicines for mental disorders, simvastatin, or tricyclic antidepressants (eg, amitriptyline because the risk of side effects may be increased
This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. Ask your health care provider if Ranolazine may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

How to use Ranolazine :
Use Ranolazine as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

Ranolazine may be taken with or without food.
Swallow Ranolazine whole. Do not break, crush, or chew before swallowing.
Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while taking Ranolazine .
If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Ranolazine .

Important safety information:
Ranolazine may cause dizziness, lightheadedness, or blurred vision. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Ranolazine . Using Ranolazine alone, with certain other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or perform other potentially dangerous tasks.

Ranolazine may cause dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting. Alcohol, hot weather, exercise, and fever can increase these effects. To prevent them, sit up or stand slowly, especially in the morning. Also, sit or lie down at the first sign of dizziness, lightheadedness, or weakness.

This medicine is not effective in treating an angina attack. Talk to your doctor about how to treat an angina attack.

LAB TESTS, including heart function tests, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.

Use Ranolazine with caution in the ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to its effects, especially constipation, nausea, or dizziness.
Use Ranolazine with extreme caution in CHILDREN. Safety and effectiveness have not been confirmed.

PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant while taking Ranolazine , discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Ranolazine during pregnancy. It is unknown if Ranolazine is excreted in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking Ranolazine .
