Various preparation methods of activated carbon from sewage sludge and their research status were introduced, major factors that have important influences on properties of activated carbon during the preparation process were analysed. In addition, several methods to improve the quality of sludge activated carbon were brought up, including : composite usage of sludge with different sources or properties ; compound use of different activators ; addition of modifier, such as catalyst, polymer and biomass.
