http://www.inderscience.com/browse/callpaper.php?callID=766 International Journal of Services Technology and Management (IJSTM) Call For papers Special Issue on: "Progress in Tourism Service and Sustainable Development" Guest Editor: Dr. Cheng Li, Sichuan University, China Due to the negative effects on the environment and society, the rapid development of tourism industry has became a big challenge for building a harmonious society and realising sustainable development. Accordingly, academia brings forward the concept of sustainable tourism, and defines it as tourism that is ecologically benign, economically feasible and socially acceptable – it is thus contingent on environmental protection and reconciling tourism activities with local socio-economic values. Tourism service covers intrinsic attributes of several activities related to this kind of service: activities that happen from tourists’ arrival until their departure. Despite study of various tourism services as well as development of suitable regulations and technologies, significant advances in the research to connect the tourism service and sustainable development has not been adequately achieved. This special issue’s strategies are to invite and encourage offerings from various disciplines; to serve as a forum through which these may interact; and thus to expand frontiers of knowledge in and contribute to the literature on tourism service science and sustainable development. In short, submissions should take account of the environment, social and human aspects of service and sustainable tourism, and not just focus on tourism service or sustainable development. All manuscripts may wish to consider how tourism service might relate to the sustainable development of novel approaches for improving our lived experience of work and community life. This special issue will be international in scope and a wide variety of papers in theoretical research, empirical research, case research and analytical models focusing on the key issues of the theme of this special issue will be considered for publication. Subject Coverage Topics of papers to be covered include, but are not limited to: Sustainable development in tourism services Harmonious development of tourism services Ecotourism services Ecologically driven tourism services Environment, ecology and tourism services Economic/social/environmental/cultural impact of tourism services Tourism services in society, ethics and culture Conflicts of interest between tourism and heterogeneous industry Heritage and tourism services Interest equilibrium of multi-stakeholders Policy-making, strategy and operation and innovation Tourism services' quality and destination competitiveness Information technology and communication in tourism services E-services Customer care Cross-cultural differences Industry's role in managing growth Government/NGO role and responses to tourism services and sustainable development Globalisation, tourism services and sustainable development Model and methodology Notes for Prospective Authors Submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere All papers are refereed through a peer review process.
