[交流] 美国老板没有面试就要推荐信是什么状况？

如题，我们只通过两次邮件。在邮件中他问了几个问题，比如为什么要来我的实验室，长期职业目标是什么，喜欢我们实验室什么方向之类的。我回答之后他就说他等我老板的推荐信。各位帮分析一下这是嘛意思？成功的几率如何？

很正常，理论上任何步骤都不是必须的，推荐信面试口头offer，顺序就看老板个人喜好，跳过某步也是可以的，说明不了任何问题。

第一封邮件：
Thank you for your interest in working in my group.  You have an interesting CV and I think there might be a fit here in Boulder.  Would you mind answering a few questions so that I can get a better idea of your research interests and goals?

1.  Why do you want to work in my lab?
2.  Why do you want to leave RIKEN?
3.  What experiences do you hope to gain in your next position?  Are there specific areas of science you would like to try to learn?  What about soft skills you would like to develop (project leadership, grant writing, etc.)?
4.  What are your long-term career goals?
5.  There are two basic thrusts in my group. One is manipulating the interfaces of colloids (bubbles, emulsions, nanoparticles, etc.) for biomedical imaging and drug delivery. The other is making "smart" materials through polymer networks like hydrogels and stiffer materials. Is there a particular area that appeals to you more? There is definitely some overlap between the two and there is room to expand to ideas within, but I am curious if there is a specific area that you are interested in.

Would you also please arrange for letters to be sent from Prof. and Prof. ?  If they could send their letters to my email, that would be great.

Thank you for your quick response. I look forward to receiving the letters from your advisors.

Regarding start date, I have an opening right now, so if things move in that direction I would like to start the hiring process fairly quickly. Obviously though I would expect that you would leave Prof. Yu's lab on good terms and finish all that you need to finish in your current work.

感谢回复，我的前老板已经发了推荐信给他。现在的老板说还要等大概两周时间才会发出，我有点担心会不会这个时间有点长呢？另外面试是不是必须走的流程呢？
