Dear Professor XX XX, I am writing to apply for a position opening in your group. Your research description seems to fit very well with my experience, education and career interests. At present, I am a postdoctoral associate in Department of XX, College of Pharmacy, University of XX. My research is focused on developing fluoresence-based solid-phase and solution assays to evaluate the binding affinities of peptides or small molecules toward XX family proteins. I have extensive experiences on peptide chemistry and protein chemistry. I also have strong background on biochemistry, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, and immunology. I began to study solid phase peptide synthesis since 1994 and had synthesized a lot of peptides in the past ten years; such as human calcitonin gene related peptides (hCGRP), hirudin(53-64), salmon calcitonin(sCT), thymosin alpha 1, human parathymoid hormone(1-34). Meanwhile, I am familiar with peptide synthesis using solution method and prepared large amount of a dipeptide, alanly-glutamine, employing this method. I am also proficient at tecniques suchas NMR, MS, HPLC, ELISA, on-exchange, gel filtration, solid phase extraction, et al. In 1999, I extended my research on peptide modification with poly ethylene glycol (PEG) since polyethylene glycol(PEG) modified proteins have been reported to have enhanced stability, increased resistance to proteolytic inactivation, improved plasma half-life, increased solubility and decreased antigenicity and immunogenicity. Some proteins have been pegylated and are currently being evaluated as potential therapeuticas since their in vivo potencies are considerably greater than the parent protein. I had made some progress in site directed pegylation of peptide in recent years, such as peglated thymosin alpha 1, pegylated thymopentin, pegylated human parathyroid hormone(1-34).
