[交流] The summary of english corner

There were ten people attended the English Corner on 22th, July. Here is the name list: Ellen, Shelley, Tom, Rain, Lucy, Bai Fengmin, Chun Ruihua, Zhao Yuchong, Zhang Zhanji, Wang Jiuxin. The Chinese names I am not sure right or wrong. Anyway, Tom was the host. Shelley wrote the summary.

Tom: Ok, everybody, today our topic is about the meaning of our names, maybe u have a lot of names, such as your name given by your parents or the name u gave to yourself. At first, let’s introduce ourselves to each other. I would like to be the first one to eat the crab. My name is Wu Shanhua, look at me, u can see that I am a foodie, I like eating. My English name is Tom. Do u know the old cartoon about the stupid cat (TOM) and a really smart mouse (JERRY). I named myself Tom before I know this cartoon.

Zhao Yuchong: My name is Zhao Yuchong, I am 11years old. I am in grade 6.

Zhang Zhanji: I am 11years old too, I am in NO.1 primary school.

Rain: Hello, everyone, my name is Li Ruotong, my English name is Rain, I am 10 years old. I am in class 2, grade 4. I take part in music class, dance class and english class. I like play computer games, because it can make me feel happy.

Lucy: My Chinese name is Zhangxinyue, the meaning of it is smells good.

Shelley: Good morning everyone, my name is Shelley, I like English very much, especially oral English. I always come here, I hope we can be good friends here.

Zhang Zhanji and Wang Jiuxin, both 17years old, they are firefighter.

Tom: let’s talk about our topic. What’s the meaning of ur name? Ok, My name is Wu Shanhua, Wu is my family name, it comes from the Three Kingdoms Period, there are a lot of famous person. Do u know Wu chengen? He is a famous writer. Shanhua is my gaven name, shan means kindness. My English name is Tom, it is easy, simple.

Rain: My teacher gave me my English name when I was in grade three.

Some kids just don’t know how to say it out, and we played a game. The rule is u name yourself by one kind of fruit, and when u do your body language, such as bend your knees when u say your fruit name, after saying you have to point one person and call his or her fruit name, if you’ve wrong three times, give us a performance.

It is a good game for kids to show themselves.

At the end of our English corner, Ellen and Shelley told us something about their name.

Ellen: My Chinese name is Liaojing, I don’t know who gave it to me, maybe my father or my grandpa. In my opinion, a name means a lot to a person, it is very important, especially in China. It is a real thing that my life is getting closer to my name. Some years later, what will happen? Who knows? But it is happened. It is like a magic. My English name is a boys name before, and Ellen is a girl’s name, the different between Allen is the first character.

Shelley: I have a lot of names, my Chinese name is Yang Hanli. I was born in a snowing afternoon, my father wants to call me Yang xue, but my aunt has this name, so my grandma gave me my name. I like snow, so my QQ name is snow. My English name is Shelley. I chose it myself, have no reason, just like it.

Times up, we hope next time will have more people to join in English corner.

Good organization! English corner, wow! It brings me to recall my memory in college. At that time as a freshman i was very excited and nervous to attend the activity but without any words, maybe some of you had similar experience, so you can understand the feeling.
Now in order to improve my oral english, I come here. I think you are amazing, especially some younger pupils, who empower me and give me a lot of encouragement.
BTW, I like the game, once I also played it in a English club activity.
