| A Notch family receptor exists at the cell surface as a proteolytically cleaved heterodimer consisting of a large ectodomain and a membrane-tethered intracellular domain. Notch receptors interact with ligands that are also single-pass typeⅠtransmembrane proteins. This restricts the Notch pathway to regulating signaling interactions between physically adjacent cells (which has been termed juxtacrine signaling). |
