As far as this review knows there is nothing like it available in the field. The book fills a very real need for those in the telecommunications field and for engineers and scientists who want to come up (or return) to speed in modern physical optics. Polarization optics is being used routinely in communication systems, but there has been a need for workers and graduate students to have an entry (as well as an advanced) treatise on the subject. Damask's comprehensive stand-alone volume satisfies this need profoundly. In fact, due to its clear exposition of the frewquently complex material, the volume would make an outstanding text for a grad course in EE and physics.
