| Delta and Jagged proteins are single-pass transmembrane ligands with extended extracellular domains and small intracellular domains. Five ligands in mammals act on four Notch receptors. The Notch receptors are single-pass transmembrane proteins that are proteolytically cleaved upon ligand binding. The cytoplasmic portion of the receptor then directly transduces a signal from the cell surface to the nucleus, and thus regulates expression of target genes. |
