Insect Science Special Issue:
Insect – Plant Interactions and Natural Enemies

Guest Editor: Dr. Eric W. Riddick, National Biological Control Laboratory, Agricultural Research Service, USDA, Stoneville MS, USA. Email: eric.riddick@ars.usda.gov

Understanding the interactions between herbivores, host plants, and natural enemies can provide clues to conserving valuable food and fiber resources. We know a lot about the intimate relationship between some insects and their host plants, but less about the effects of host plants on natural enemies of herbivores. Because of the continuous threat that native and invasive herbivorous pests have on our economy, there is an urgent need to readjust old techniques and develop new ones to manage these pests now and in the future. Since natural enemies (predators, pathogens, and parasitoids) play a major role in managing pests, we should continue our efforts in conserving their populations and predicting the roles they will play in the future.

We invite papers for this special issue on “Insect – Plant Interactions and Natural Enemies”. The aim of this special issue is to advance our understanding of the intricate connections between plants, insects, mites, and natural enemies. Focus areas may include adaptations, speciation, behavioral ecology, chemical ecology, development, morphology, physiology or reproduction. Research papers may take an experimental, observational or theoretical approach to discovery, and involve laboratory, greenhouse or field studies of native or invasive species. Review and mini-review papers are also invited (submit a writing plan to guest editor prior to developing a full-length manuscript).
