Association Of The Gene Polymorphism Of Lymphotoxin A With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, [Publication Page: A4085] P. Wang1, H.M. Li2 1Beijing/CN, 2Baicheng/CN Objective It has been proven that lymphotoxin A (LTA) plays key roles in the regulation of B and T cell activities, which is important for the recovery outcomes of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether LTA gene polymorphisms were involved in the genetic susceptibility and clinical severity of COPD patients in a Han population of the northern China. Methods 6 tSNPs (rs2844482, rs2071590, rs2239704, rs909253, rs2229094, and rs1041981) of LTA were selected for genotyping in 122 COPD patients and 163 healthy controls who are well matched in age and sex, using polymerase chain reaction (PCR)- sequencing analysis. Chi-square test and unconditional logistic regression were used to comparatively analyze the genotypes between patients and the controls. Results The genotype distributions of 6 tSNPs in COPD patients had no difference from that in healthy controls. However, when the sub-group analysis of patients were performed, the genotype distributions of rs2071590, rs2239704, rs909253 and rs1041981 in mild COPD patients were found significantly different from that in patients with moderate and severe COPD. The rs2071590 was associated with the severity of COPD in recessive model (odds ratio, OR: 2.270; 95% CI: 1.133-5.022). The two SNPs (rs909253 and rs1041981) were associated with the severity of COPD in dominant model (OR: 0.370 and 0.364; 95% CI: 0.116-0.923 and 0.111-0.965). The rs2239704 SNP was associated with the severity of COPD in both dominant and recessive (codominant) models (OR: 2.817 and 2.199; 95% CI: (1.137-9.744 and 1.107-4.588). Conclusion These results suggest that LTA is not associated with increased risk for COPD susceptibility, but significantly associated with the progression and recovery outcome of COPD patients.
