Ususally, we think that refusal is bad for the human communication. While ,sincerity is a goodness. So saying "no" directly when you would not offer help in your heart may be better.

Obviously it is not a problem to refuse a request from unfamiliar people. However, it is often a challenge to say NO to your best friends. I always make compromises. I think you are in the right way that to tell the truth.

you've made the same mistake as last time, where you should have used "her" instead of "she".
