The point is: if I'm really interested in some questions that I'm thinking about, I will spend much time to design the experiments, do the experiments, and know the answer. After I know the answer, I will feel quite excited. For example, my previous group mate found that adding Al2O3 to Au/TiO2 is good, then I thought, "Can we use other metal oxide additives to do a better job?" With this key question in mind, I tested the addition of a number of metal oxides, and found some metal oxides are good and some metal oxides are bad. After that, I will be very ready to share my results and conclusions with the catalysis community. Of course, when sharing the results, somebody will play tricks by reporting good data without reporting bad data, and always say "further research on the reaction mechanism/new reactions is in progress (so, Dear reviewer, don't ask me at this moment)". However, I quite enjoy reporting both good and "bad" data in one paper to make the picture clear. Another factor is that if my paper is published in Applied Catalysis A, there will be a lot of relevant readers. However, if my paper is published in Journal of Physical Chemistry or Langmuir, although the impact factor of the journal is a little bit higher, the readers are not very relevant. |
