稀有气体的化学惰性使其在地质过程中丰度和同位素组成变化不受地质演化过程影响。
天然气中3He为原始核素,4He为放射性元素铀、钍衰变的产物,3He、4He成因差异为判断天然气来源提供判识指标。
天然气中36Ar来自沉积期的大气,而40Ar则主要来源于40K放射性衰变,体现了氩的年代积累效应。
在利用氦同位素判断天然气来自壳源的基础上,40Ar含量与源岩中母体元素的丰度和岩石年代有关,由于母体元素丰度多处于同一量级,因此,40Ar含量主要与源岩时代有关。
36Ar、38Ar和3He在岩石中含量甚微(n×10-6)。放射性成因40Ar和3He的加入引起同位素组成明显变化。
现代高精度质谱仪为稀有气体丰度和同位素精确测定提供技术支持。
当3He/4He比值大于1.4×10-6,有幔源气加入。东部盆地(松辽盆地等)研究发现幔源气存在对40Ar/36Ar比值有明显影响( 40Ar/36Ar值高,但源岩时代新),不能直接用40Ar/36Ar值进行气源岩年龄估算。
幔源气体3He/4He值和40Ar/36Ar值皆高。通过氦同位素组成可剔除幔源气混入,使自生自储型天然气40Ar/36Ar比值的年代积累效应更明显。壳源氦也具有年代积累效应,3He/4He比值与源岩母体元素呈负相关。

He3 is the original helium of the natural gas, while He4 is the decay product of radioisotopes of uranium and thorium. The formation difference between He3 and He4 can thus serve as the judging index natural gas’ origion.
Ar36 of the natural gas is originated from depositional stage’s atmosphere, and Ar40 is mainly come from decay of K40, which indicate the deposition effect of Ar.
Base on the theory of judging the natural gas’ origin by He isotopes, the content of Ar40 is related to the abundance of rock matrix and rock era, and because the abundance of matrix elements are in the same order of magnitude, Ar40 content is mail related to rock era.
Ar36, Ar38 and He3 is very low(n ×10-6) in rock. Ar40 and He3 that caused radioactive makes the isotope composition significantly changed.
The modern high accurate mass spectrometer technically supported the accurate determination of abundance of inert gas and isotope.
when the ratio of He3/He4 is greater than 1.4×10-6,it means there are some mantle source gas doped. Study of the eastern basin(Songliao basin) indicated that the existence of mantle sourced gas would greatly affect the Ar40/Ar36, thus, their ration can not be directly used to estimate of gas source rock’s age.
The mantle source gas He3/He4 value and Ar40/Ar36 are both increased. Judging by He isotope, mixing of mantle source gas can be eliminated, which makes the spontaneously produced and storaged natural gas’ era deposition effect more distinct. The earth crust originated He also has era depositional effect and the ratio of He3/He4 is negatively related to rock source element(element’s content).
