        Abstract:        "Needle puncturing" interactive measurement was researched. The characteristics and disadvantages of this method were analyzed, and according to the characteristics of the 3D volume data of solid rocket motor and the need of fault diagnosis, a new interactive 3D measurement method based on volume rendering was established. The 3D image model of solid rocket motor was measured with the "needle puncturing" interactive method and trace ball interactive method respectively. Through the contrastive verification experiment of simulate motor, it shows that the length and depth of the defects can be measured with the new method intuitively and the new method can improve the measurement accuracy, so the detection precision is reliable and the results can provide inputs to the fault diagnosis of solid rocket motor.
