Food allergy

Do you have an allergy to certain food? I once was very allergic to sunflower seed, I dislike the smell of the seed, and after I eat it, I will feel very uneasy in my esophagus (the tube between the throat and our stomach). Later, things become better, but I still can not eat too many these seeds. How about you? In USA, on the package of many foods, signs say this food contains peanuts or something like that. And, a recent news happened. Cameron, a 19-year old freshman, died about 4 hours after eating a cookie which containing peanut oil, last Friday. He was found allergic to all nuts when he was 8, then he often reads the singns and inquires the attendants to make sure he can eat this food. Often, he will choose not eating a food only by the smell, his body can tell him, but this time, he failed. About three million American children suffer from a kind of food or digestive allergy, and during 1997 to 2007, this number increased by 17%. What is the condition in China? It seems I have never heard one person died because of food allergy. |

Well, as far as I know, in China, a number of people are suffering from allergy that they rarely know about. They have never linked some of their symptoms to allergy, but actually that is the real root of their unexplained illnesses. For example, asian people tend to have lactose intolerance. Once they drink some milk, they feel uncomfortable in several aspects, like diarrhea, gassy etc. The reason is that asians are more likely to lack lactase that can hydrolyze the lactose, so that the lactose is broken down by the bacterial inhabiting in the intestine and then causes the discomfort. I think this is also a kind of allergy. Anyway, a number of chinese are allergic to some kinds of food which they have never realized. |

Interesting topic! At the very beginning of my stay in Canada, I found the recurring alarms and reminders of allergy feature their food supermarkets. Sometimes there are exaggerating examples. Once in the primary school where my kid stays, a Mr was found to be allergic to kiwifuit in the morning, a formal print notice was brought back by every child to their parents or guardians after scholl on the very day, and the notice said "To bring kiwifuit to school is suspended indefinitely". So, I always banter western guys by saying that they are fragile, are they really congenitally fragile? The notorious virus for SARS was plagued by the controversy that the vicious stuff was deliberately designed and produced to aim at Chinese. Jesus must know more difference among different ethnic groups and races, he makes secret of it only to ensure the scholars worldwide have something to pursue. haha, Joke apart, besides the medical consideration, in a sense, maybe western people can afford to pay moe attention to their health issue than we do. Some Chinese, in all probability, have died of allergy. Sooner or later, we Chinese people will get around to and afford to generally deal with issues like allgery. |
