My interpretation about English learning
English learning doesn¡¯t lie in the teachers¡¯ lectures, it depends heavily on your self-learning effort. I will take myself for example to illuminate how to learn English. First, you should have a clear aim about why you learn English, why you have to endure the depression of remembering the words, the frustration about reading a particularly elusive article. If your objective is to pass the exams, I suggest you not read this paper any further, it won¡¯t help you at all. So, what¡¯s the proper attitude towards the English learning? First, you should know the interior of a language is: obtaining and offering information. Then, based on this, your ultimate aim of the English learning is interaction. It is the information that the language carries matters than the language itself. We pay a great deal of effort to learn a language is just to obtain the information that this language can give us. No big deal, just the new information. Here, the definition of the information may relatively wider. It includes the news, the culture, the mindset, the technics and so on. After you have set up your aim about the English learning, you will come to a point where you are seeking some pragmatic methods about learning it. The following approaches I will introduce are all revolving around the key word ¡°use¡±. We learn something from using it. The slogan of my methods is to treat English as a useful tool, not a confounding discipline. I will start with the words. To remember the meaning of the word is certainly a useful and necessary way to remember it. But it is too fundamental to level up your ability. What I focus on is the ambiguilty(¶àÒåÐÔ) of the word and its¡¯ proper interpretation in the different context. To think over a word in this way will do a lot of good to your comprehension of the word and easy for you to remember it. About reading, I consider it as a good way to remember the words because you will confront of the words all the time when you do some reading. In terms of the books, I prefer the English edition as you easier to blend into the English atmosphere. Do not choose the novel books at first, otherwise you will give up easily. Begin with some stories for children. Then you can step by step to try some other kinds. In a word, it depends on you. When it comes to the listening comprehension, no better way than listening more. Try some VOA or BBC news and I suggest the general speed. When you find yourself can understand a sentence(certainly it will begin with understanding the single words),I think it¡¯s a good way to train your comprehension skills. About writing, you can write some articles regularly, this is the common method or you can try the Chat Room. Though there are some differences between daily English and written English, it gives you an opportunity to write something and let you interact with the outside world. As to the oral English, there is really no good method to handle that. My strategy is to participate in some courses in the institution like XIndongfang. At last, I want to share a little tip with you. That¡¯s watching the English animated movies with only the English subtitle. That will enhance your listening, reading and help you master more words at the same time. You can go through it at the first time to enjoy the movie and then chew on it. |
