Quality assurance has reached a new dimension for automotive OEM paints and coatings. While time-consuming batch-to-batch approvals of the customer’s specifications has been the order of the day, supporting-system approaches, for example, audit-management systems according to DIN-ISO 9001 and 14001, ISO/TS 16949, QS 9000 or VDA 6.1, have become mandatory for the paint industry to be approved as a supplier to the automotive industry. So, right from the beginning, the development of new products has to be quality oriented to ‘zero defect’ levels through all the steps leading up to the delivery status.
