Modern Geometry - Methods and Applications: Part 3: Introduction to Homology Theory (Graduate Texts in Mathematics) By B.A. Dubrovin, A.T. Fomenko, S.P. Novikov, Publisher: Springer Number Of Pages: 432 Publication Date: 1990-10-18 Sales Rank: 798015 ISBN / ASIN: 0387972714 EAN: 9780387972718 Binding: Hardcover Manufacturer: Springer Studio: Springer Average Rating: 5 Over the past fifteen years, the geometrical and topological methods of the theory of manifolds have as- sumed a central role in the most advanced areas of pure and applied mathematics as well as theoretical physics. The three volumes of Modern Geometry - Methods and Applications contain a concrete exposition of these methods together with their main applications in mathematics and physics. This third volume, presented in highly accessible languages, concentrates in homology theory. It contains introductions to the contemporary methods for the calculation of homology groups and the classification of manifesto. Both scientists and students of mathematics as well as theoretical physics will find this book to be a valuable reference and text. Review: One of the best treatises on geometry/topology available these days! I first got acquainted with Dubrovin/Novikov/Fomenko(in short, DNF) when I was still a second year sophomore student in math trying to learn the basics on plane/space differential curves as a complement for my Calculus courses. And since then I've made countless references to this book. The pace is fast compared to other well known introductions on differential geometry/topology but the text has many insightful and non-trivial examples examples. Challenging problems are present everywhere in the text! Though there are a few problems per chapter, the problems sometimes really require some mastery of the material being far from immediate applications of the theory developed(for the joy or despair of the reader). Intentionally the authors try, whenever possible, to replace calculations and difficult deductions with conceptual proofs. Frequent links with physical theories (e.g. mechanics, electromagnetism, general relativity, field theory etc.) compound a big chunk of the text which makes its reading still more delightful. As a con, I would say the text is quite hard for a beginner but those with patience and persistence(like me) will see that the recompenses are abound. In summary: two thumbs up!Password: gigapedia.org Type: djvu Size: 5.11 MB MD5: dce12a830f0dcacd7dfdd5ff96a84439 http://rapidshare.com/files/41655444/0387972714.zip.html http://mihd.net/fhepw6 Modern Geometry - Methods and Applications: Part I: The Geometry of Surfaces, Transformation Groups, and Fields (Graduate Texts in Mathematics) By B.A. Dubrovin, A.T. Topics covered include tensors and their differential calculus, the calculus of variations in one and several dimensions, and geometric field theory. This material is explained in as simple and concrete a language as possible, in a terminology acceptable to physicists. The text for the second edition has been substantially revised. Review: Best book to begin differential geometry with .. Written by prominent mathematicians it is the one of the best books on the topic . The language of the book is very simple so it is suitable for physics ...Password: gigapedia.org Type: djvu Size: 5.69 MB MD5: 8d607633f9ce8fd54700d768f0323873 http://rapidshare.com/files/41655445/0387976639.zip.html http://mihd.net/l86074 [ Last edited by laizuliang on 2007-12-18 at 20:10 ] |
