[转贴]Invest in Future Leaders of China: Chevening Annual Party in Guangzhou

Dozens of Chinese students who have studied or will study in UK with Chevening Scholarships got together at the residence of British Consul-General in Guangzhou for the annual Party on June 30th. Chinese and British participants happily listen to the address by the British Consul-General Brian Davidson during the Chevening Annual Party on June 30th. British Consul-General Brian Davidson addressed the party, “The best investment you can make is to invest in people. Chevening Scholarship aims at investing in the future leaders of China.” Over 200 students from Chinese Mainland won the scholarship this year and will go to UK for studies, according to the consulate’s statistics. Mr. Davidson said within the ten years’ operation of the scholarship, they have been always taking efforts to give more talented students from more diversified fields of China to get the scholarship, and now they are trying to involve more private funds to create more quotas of students. “ The most important quality we are looking for is the leadership,” Mr. Davidson said, when being asked about the selection criterion of the scholarship. He also gave some advice for those who wants to apply for it. “ You are about to market yourself. You shall tell us an impressive story which demonstrates how excellent you are and what you will contribute to the relationship between UK and China after you finish your study.” Each year British Consulate will organize a series of events for students who get Chevening Scholarship.
